The HC-SR501 Adjustable PIR Motion Sensor Module is a passive infrared detector that senses the body heat of people and animals moving within its field of view. Built around the BISS0001 control IC and a pyroelectric sensor beneath a Fresnel lens dome, it outputs a simple digital signal whenever motion is detected.

Key features:

  • Pyroelectric Detection: Uses a Fresnel lens dome to focus infrared changes onto the sensor for reliable motion sensing.
  • Adjustable Sensitivity: An onboard potentiometer sets the detection distance up to roughly 7 meters.
  • Adjustable Delay Time: A second potentiometer sets how long the output stays high after motion stops, from about 5 seconds to 5 minutes.
  • Trigger Mode Jumper: Selectable single-trigger or repeatable-trigger operation via an onboard jumper.
  • Wide Input Voltage: Operates from 4.5V to 20V DC, with a 3.3V logic-level digital output.
  • Low Power Consumption: Draws under 65 microamps in standby, suitable for battery-powered projects.

It is widely used in automatic lighting, security alarms, and occupancy-sensing projects with Arduino, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi.
